Forensics is about Public Speaking in all its forms, and it aims to inspire a genuine love for knowledge, to build confidence and motivate students to do their best.
Students are encouraged to research in depth current political, social, and moral affairs, analyse them by exchanging ideas and opinions, and debate on them. As students explore the spoken and written word, they develop 21st century skills, which are key abilities today’s students need to succeed in their careers in the Information Age: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, flexibility, initiative, leadership, social skills, information, and media literacy.
In Forensics there is also room for artistic expression. Dramatic and comic literary extracts, as well as theatrical pieces, are rehearsed thoroughly and performed in front of a live audience.
Throughout the year, students compete in tournaments and events between schools and within our School. Every spring, students participate in the annual Panhellenic Forensics Association Tournament. They also enter the International Competition for Young Debaters and we have seen our teams qualify for the finals, which are held at the Oxford or Cambridge Union Societies in autumn. Our debaters have also represented Greece at the World Schools Debate Championships.
