At I.M.Panagiotopoulos School we value English language learning as we are committed to preparing our students to become future-ready global citizens.
Preparing Fluent Users of English with International Perspectives
The core principle behind our English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme is to offer our students the opportunity to develop their fluency in English alongside their home language and, through this learning journey, to acquire bilingualism through their education.
Implementing English Medium Instruction (EMI) as an integral part of our English programme, I.M.Panagiotopoulos School students acquire proficiency in the English language while they are taught curriculum subjects (other than English itself) in English. English Medium Instruction (EMI) offers students more opportunities and promotes a deeper level of language assimilation as well. English-taught subjects are designed with the students’ needs in mind and increase in complexity throughout the school years.
I.M.Panagiotopoulos School English programme and its learning outcomes have been developed by the highly qualified educators of our English Department who apply the most contemporary methods in English language teaching, and choose and create the most effective and up-to-date material and resources.
A Complete Approach to Bilingual Education
Nursery and Pre-Primary School Education is based on a bilingual Greek-English programme which is fully implemented through co-teaching in line with the standards of the British Curriculum.
Primary School Education offers students an immersive experience of English instruction through the teaching of English, co-teaching sessions as well as curriculum subjects taught thoroughly in English. Pearson Edexcel iPrimary is the teaching and learning programme implemented to provide students with an ideal foundation needed for progression to International A-Level (IAL) curriculum.
Junior and Senior High School Education leads students to master English at an exceptional level and use it fluently in demanding academic and professional situations. Through English Medium Instruction (EMI) and Pearson Edexcel curriculum, our students are taught curriculum subjects in English to gain a deeper level of language and academic progression towards international educational systems.
Completing their student life, I.M.Panagiotopoulos High School students are able to open doors to top universities worldwide by either directly applying in an English-speaking university programme or acquiring the Pearson Edexcel International AS/A Levels (IAL) qualifications that are globally recognised.
Beyond the Classroom - English Speaking Activities
Acknowledging the fact that it is no longer enough to simply teach our students what we know of our subject, the English Department encourages the participation in activities that foster the development of skills for communication in English and global engagement. Such activities take place either in the morning or as part of the afternoon extracurricular programme throughout all school years depending on the students’ age.
An appropriate English context which has meaning to them can be created while participating in a Language Lab, developing Motor Skills, doing Sports, being a member of the Fine Art Society, the English Theatre Society or the Mahlab team.
Public Speaking in all its forms as well as research in depth on current political, social and moral affairs are fostered by our Forensics and MUN teams which participate in prestigious tournaments, congresses and events all around the world qualifying for remarkable distinctions.
British Council @ I.M.Panagiotopoulos School
The cooperation between I.M.Panagiotopoulos School and the British Council Greece dates back to the mid 80’s. It was 2013 though that marked the beginning of the partnership between the two educational institutions. Mutual respect and the recognition of the educational value of our shared approach led to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was followed by the launch of unique innovative programmes and joint activities.
The British Council Saturday Creative School and The British Summer School in Athens are two joint programmes which have attracted a great number of both I.M.Panagiotopoulos School and external students throughout the years.
The aim of both is to develop young learners’ ability, confidence and language skills to communicate in English while having fun!
